Day 81: The Nativity
Joel 1:1-3:21
Revelation 1:1-20
Psalm 128:1-6
Proverbs 29:18
I am so excited by today's reading in Joel. Joel 2:22-31 is INSANELY AWESOME. Just go read it, it's too big of a passage for me to write out. It's SO good. It reminded me of Narnia, it encouraged my soul and reminded me who I am in Jesus Christ.
It's prophesying so many different redemptive moves and the best way to summarize it all is: it's pointing to Jesus.
My favorite Christmas decoration has always been Nativity scenes. My grandparents always travelled a lot and they always bought a Nativity scene wherever they went. So every Christmas they would display at least 20 different Nativities from Italy, China, Mexico, and so many different places in the world. Every country's Nativity looked different from the other and it highlighted the differences in cultures while at the same time highlighting the unifying nature of Jesus Christ.
I don't know if as a child I appreciated that and just the holy thing it was: the Nativity, but it has always been and continues to be my favorite Christmas decoration.
I mentioned before that my family puts out a large Nativity scene on our front lawn this year. I think it's the most beautiful thing. I am always encouraged to have reminders of Jesus. Christmas is such a special time to remember Jesus daily.
What a beautiful holy thing: the Nativity.
I'd really encourage you to read Joel today as it is truly pointing to the amazing things Jesus has done for us.
