Day 94: New Clothes
Zechariah 2:1-3:10
Revelation 13:1-13:18
Psalm 141:1-10
Proverbs 30:18-20
Here we go again with Satan the accuser, but this time it's in Zechariah.
"Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him."
I'm not even going to pretend to understand all the details of this, though I'm sure they all hold crazy significance...I could look it up but I'm needing to start getting ready to go to a wedding today. If I've learned anything is this project, it's that in-depth Bible studies are not practical for every day no matter how frustrating it may be to come across a passage that I KNOW has to have so much more meaning than I am grasping but I don't have time to investigate. So, put in a pin in this and maybe one day I'll go get a Masters in theology.
"The Lord said to Satan, 'The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?'
"Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, 'Take off his filthy clothes.'
"Then he said to Joshua, 'See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.'"
I love this tactile description of God taking away our sin. Did you notice that Joshua was already a High Priest? He was already a High Priest wearing filthy clothes. All human beings no matter their status, spiritual, worldly, economically, etc... need to be saved by Jesus Christ. We are all in the filthy-clothes boat and we need the new clothes provided by the blood of the Lamb.
