Days 97-99: Sick Days

Zechariah 8:1-11:17

Revelation 16:1-18:24

Psalm 144-146

Proverbs 30:29-33

On Christmas Day I woke up feeling a little bit sick. We had a wonderful Christmas morning with the family cooking breakfast together and giving each other gifts. We stayed home all day watching Christmas movies by the fire and playing board games. But by the end of the day I had a very high fever and it became very clear that I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes open long enough to read and I definitely didn't have it in me to write a blog post.

The next day I still had a fever but that didn't stop our family from going on our vacation to Oceanside, CA. My sister helped me pack, we loaded in the car, and I had my blanket with me to help me sleep on the hour and a half car ride. Then we realized we had a flat tire...so we transferred our suitcases into our other smaller car and we squeezed ourselves in for the drive. By the time we reached our destination I was so exhausted that again I wasn't going to be able to blog.

Today my fever is lower and we are settled into our vacation location. I'm all set with the TV on a comfy couch...I'm all set to have a day with full permission to just be sick. But I wanted to start the day catching up on my reading...after 96 days of reading the Bible every single day even the very first day I didn't read the Bible I found myself doubting everything. I don't even know how to explain it...it definitely felt like a spiritual attack. I don't feel 100% healthy right now but that by no means will stop God from speaking to me through His Word.

I don't recommend skipping days in the reading, if you are wanting to start this process with me. I think I had good reason, but it did make reading today a little more overwhelming that the typical daily reading. Zechariah and Revelation said A LOT. It all basically just reminded me how fallen this world is and how desperate we all are, whether we know it or not, to be made new in Christ. Come Lord Jesus Come.

But Psalm 145 perfectly wraps up what this project is for me and why it was difficult to be sick and less engaged with the Word...

"I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise Your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise You and extol Your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom...."

Here's the thing...reading the Bible every day just has to result in this: praising His Name every day.

We don't need to read the Bible every day to praise His Name...I don't think the past two days that I didn't read means I wasn't talking to God or praising Him or anything like that...but I definitely felt like something was missing after so many days of reading the Bible and consequently worshipping the Lord.

"The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made."
