Maybe it sounds harsh, maybe it doesn't make sense, maybe it seems like too much to say...but
"anyone who loves their father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." Matthew 10:37
But we're talking about Jesus...He should be the most important, the only thing we truly care about.
And anyway, how much can you really love your father, mother, son, or daughter without devoting your life to Jesus? God is love! We are imperfect and through Him He shapes us into hearts that are able to love in forgiving, unconditional, beautiful ways.
He is love, He is everything.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside of your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Matthew 10:29-31
How harsh can it be to say we ought to care above all else about the God who cares for us, knows us, and loves us?
