Caleb vs Peter

Numbers 10:14:1-15:16

Mark 14:53-72

Psalm 53:1-6

Proverbs 11:4

Caleb cries out to the mob of scared and angry Israelites, "The Lord is with us! Do not be afraid!"

And Peter denies, denies, denies, at Jesus's darkest hour, he denies.

Caleb is faithful and brave. Peter is cowardly.

Yet both will receive God's promises...because God is a gracious, loving God...and because God looks to the heart.

Peter denies Jesus but he repents. His heart is soft and vulnerable to the conviction when he hears that rooster crow. His heart is humbled, not hardened.

Caleb is more compelled by the might of God than by the dangers he sees in the Promised Land. He is convinced that God is able and God is with them.

Caleb and Peter fear God. Caleb and Peter are imperfect human men who surely fear, struggle, and/or doubt but none of that overpowers their fear of God. God is able and God is with them.
