For Those Who Serve Jesus

Joshua 24:1-33

Luke 21:1-28

Psalm 89:38-52

Proverbs 13:20-23

As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:15

Perhaps it is no longer applicable for one man to state what his "household" will do. Perhaps there are things about this verse that are taken out of context.

But I think this has got to be one of the few cliché verses in the Bible that stands true out of context.

There comes a time for all of us whether we are conscious of it or not when we need to decide who we will serve. Which god. Which people. Which lifestyle.

And it is my greatest hope that in that moment you will choose to serve Jesus.

Because, even though those who serve Jesus are destined for scary times... persecution... humiliation... betrayal... loneliness.... and we are all eventually destined for these things... earthquakes... wars... famines... it is those who serve Jesus who will have an unwavering, grounding, relentless hope to cling to and to eventually realize: "you will not perish but have everlasting life."

For those not serving Jesus these times will be nothing but fear and despair. But for those serving Jesus these times will be a welcomed, ready sign "your redemption is drawing near."
