"Where else would we go?"
1 Samuel 10:1-11:15
John 6:43-71
Psalm 107:1-43
Proverbs 15:1-3
Jesus calls us to a difficult, difficult life. It's difficult in that it's something that goes against our nature. We are selfish and fearful and the call to abandon ourselves and to focus on Jesus alone, to follow Him blindly goes against our instinct. But to follow Jesus is to realize who you really are. As much as following Jesus goes against our instincts: following Jesus is what you were made for, it is what we were made for. The thing in us that makes us hate it is not who we really are.
A lot of Jesus's followers leave when they realize how difficult the call is. And Jesus asks, "are you going to leave too?"
And Peter...who has seen that Jesus is God...who has seen that following Jesus is WHERE IT IS AT...who has seen that following Jesus is where he found out who he is....says, "Where else would we go?"
To follow Jesus is hard but once you do there's no going back. You can't because it won't make sense. You can't because where else would you go?
Psalm 107 is like a tall glass of water: refreshing and vibrant. Full of good good words of hope and life.
